Here we are, two weeks into 2023, and it feels like January is 8,243 days long sometimes. I don't know about you, but since I've started a business my brain is in "go" mode all the time. I lose sleep thinking about potential trends, blog post ideas, and services/products I need develop in order to stay relevant this year. It's important to stay ahead of the curve and remain competitive, and adding a blog to your website is a great way to do that. Here's my list of reasons that having a blog on your website will be beneficial to your business:

Having a blog will add depth to your website

Like pools have a shallow end and a deep end, some websites have shallow and deep pages. Adding a blog will give your website a deeper end, if you are getting my metaphor at all. You can use it to share stories about yourself and the "behind-the-scenes" of your business, give advice on niche-specific subjects or your products, and provide helpful tips to your audience, clients, or customers. This will help you build trust* with your customers and show them that you are an expert in your field.

Having a blog will help you build your email list

Any serial-entrepreneur, business owner, content creator, or internet influencer will tell you: your email list (contact list, potential client list, etc.) is the MOST important thing you can have. I've been reading a book here lately titled 30 Days Book - Clickfunnels - You Suddenly Lose Everything... What Would You Do From Day 1 to Day 30 To Save Yourself..., written by Russell Brunson. Basically, if all of your money, websites, products, content, etc., were taken from you, the only thing you would need to begin again is your email list. It is the one asset of your business that you shouldn't be able to afford to lose. It helps you stay connected to your customers, keep them updated on new products or services, and personalize your approach to marketing.

Having a blog helps you showcase your products and services

You can do so many things with this aspect of having a blog. For example: if you are a boutique owner, you can have blog posts with an "Outfit of the Day" (OOTD), and can advertise particular products that you know will be best-sellers. If you own a hair salon, you can write blogs about any upcoming trends you think your clients might like, and can showcase your skills as a hair stylist that stays up-to-date. If you're a car salesman, your blog could give consumers insights on how best to find the car that fits them, and then show them your new stock based on the information in the post. There are so many options here.

Having a blog will build the Know-Like-Trust factor with your audience

I touched on this a little when I discussed adding depth to your website. It also adds depth to you as a human beings. And when people are considering spending money, they are more likely to spend it on something or someone they can relate to, that they know, and that they trust. If your audience or customers don't know you, it's going to be hard for them to like you, and if they don't like you they definitely won't trust you. A blog will give you a voice, a personality, an opinion, and a place where your customers can get to know you. Once they get to know who you are as an entrepreneur (and as a person), they can start to relate to you, to your struggles, and your life. Once that magic happens, your ideal customer will look forward to seeing your content. And as a result of those things, they will start to trust you as an expert in your industry, and as someone who can give them the products or services that they want. Then, *boom*, your sales increase, guaranteed.

What's the takeaway?

In conclusion, adding a blog to your website is definitely something that should be on your new year's resolution checklist. It will help you stay up-to-date on the latest trends and provide valuable content to your audience, customers, and clients. If you really want to add a blog to your website, but have no idea where to start, I can help you out!
