In my last post, I talked about how blogs are a powerful tool for building your business and adding depth to your website. In this post, I'll add a few reasons why blogs are beneficial for optimizing your website. And...I've added a little pizazz. A FREE template for your first blog post!
Here are three reasons a blog will optimize your website, and your business:
1. Fresh content:
Search engines like Google favor websites with fresh, relevant content. By regularly updating your blog with new posts, you're giving search engines more reasons to "crawl" your site and index your pages. (The little bots that Google has to search websites are called "spiders." Therefore, the term for them search your websites for relevant keywords is called "crawling." I know, yuck.)
2. Targeted keywords:
Blogging gives you the opportunity to use targeted keywords in your content. By including relevant keywords in your blog posts, you can help your website rank higher in search engine results for those keywords. What is a targeted keyword? For example, I am a service provider, and I provide writing services. Therefore, some of my targeted keywords might be "writing services," "blog writing," or "writing help." An extra tip: make sure you're putting your keywords in your headlines.
3. Backlinks:
Blogging also gives you the opportunity to earn backlinks to your website. A backlink is a hyperlink to a different site placed on a web page. When other websites link to your blog posts, they're essentially giving your site a vote of confidence. The more backlinks you have, the more authority you will have in your industry, or area of expertise. This is good for SEO, or "search engine optimization."
