FAQ // 10 Frequently Asked Questions About Social Media Managers

In my last article, I went over some frequently asked questions about social media strategists. In today's blog, I'm going to discuss ten FAQs for social media managers:

1. What does a Social Media Manager actually do?

A Social Media Manager is like a master chef of social media, and the Hobbs to a social media strategist’s Shaw. They create content, manage social media accounts, engage with followers, and measure the success of social media campaigns.

2. Is it true that Social Media Managers get paid to be on Facebook and Instagram all day?

While it might look like they're having a blast scrolling through social media all day, Social Media Managers are actually working hard to make your brand look good online. So, no, they're not just getting paid to watch reels and share memes.

3. Can a Social Media Manager really boost my sales?

They most definitely can! A well-executed social media strategy can increase brand awareness, engagement, and ultimately drive more sales.

4. Do I need to hire a full-time Social Media Manager, or can I outsource the job?

It depends on your business needs and your budget. Outsourcing can be cost-effective, but you need to consider the size of the job. Having a full-time Social Media Manager can provide more consistent and in-depth social media management, as well as a better ROI in the long run.

5. How do I know if a Social Media Manager is a good fit for my brand?

Sometimes running a business is risk vs. reward. You’re going to want to look for someone who has experience in your industry, understands your brand's voice/values, and has a track record of successfully managing social media accounts. But if you have that “small business intuition,” you’ll just know if someone is the right fit.

6. Can a Social Media Manager handle negative comments or reviews on my social media accounts?

Because part of a social media manager’s job is to connect and engage with your audience, a skilled one should be able to respond to negative comments in a professional and effective way, and help turn a negative situation into a positive one.

7. Is it possible to measure the ROI of social media marketing?

You can definitely track metrics like engagement, reach, website traffic, and conversions. And your social media manager should be able to track these metrics. But hiring a social media manager is not an absolute guarantee of how much your ROI will increase. But a good SMM can track and analyze all of those things to determine the success of your social media campaigns.

8. Should I focus more on creating content or engaging with followers on social media?

Both of these are so important! Content creation helps attract new followers, while engagement helps build relationships, foster that coveted know-like-trust factor, and keep your audience coming back for more.

9. Can a Social Media Manager help me with influencer marketing?

Yes, many Social Media Managers have experience working with influencers to promote brands and products on social media.

10. Do Social Media Managers ever take a break from social media?

Yes, of course! Social Media Managers are human too and need time to rest and recharge. But when they're on the job, they're always working hard to keep your brand looking its best on social media.
